Here are 3 of our "kids" grazing and enjoying living in the Sonoita Valley - & Jim & a local bull - no, he's not tied to the trailer!

One of the reasons we love Sonoita is because of our passion for horses and horse-related activities.  There are many private arenas in the valley as well as a nice facility at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.  The Santa Cruz County Fair & Rodeo Association hosts many equine events - rodeos, quarter horse shows, hunter-jumper competitions, as well as the county fair and other functions.

Sonoita/Patagonia/Elgin is extremely horse and animal-friendly.  4-H is popular in the schools & with all the wide open spaces for animals it's a great activity for the kids.

Jim is a team roper (heeler) who competes in local ropings, as well as in the Senior Pro Circuit.  If you have any questions about what it takes to keep your horse and livestock happy & healthy in this area, please give Jim a call.  Jim graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Agriculture, and has had horses and steers constantly since moving to Sonoita 12 years ago.

At 5,000 feet in elevation, you just can't beat the climate, fresh air & great water in the Sonoita valley.  We're close enough to Tucson and Sierra Vista for either commuting to work or for those shopping trips, and just a 2-3 hour drive on the interstate will take you to Phoenix and all the events it has to offer.

If horses & animals aren't your thing, you'll find plenty of other activities and folks who like a genteel country estate lifestyle.  We have many restaurants, art galleries, and stores to keep even a "city" person happy!  From Sonoita you can reach just about any area of Tucson within 1 hour, and Phoenix is just a 2 1/2 hour drive away. Our burgeoning wine industry provides lots of interesting activities for friends who may visiting as many of the wineries offer tastings and have special festivals and openings.
